A friend visited me last week, and I had such a delightful time it reminded me of something important I wanted to share with you about the joy of playing with others. Enjoying playful relationships can heal, restore and help us get unstuck.
The body heals with play,
the mind heals with laughter,
and the spirit heals with joy.
All of these things make us feel so good. But how often do you play, laugh, and experience joy?
Can you remember the last time you laughed so hard you peed? Played a game of tag? Or threw up your arms in joy because you wanted to hug the world?
Those moments of fullness in your life may be rare, but they don’t have to be.
We get so caught up with the mundane details of our life, we forget there are people who light us up like Roman candles.

Why don’t we seek playful relationships out more often?
Is it because you’ve been so busy? Or exhausted? Do you default to doing things alone?
Solitude is fantastic for listening to your inner voice, grounding yourself, and understanding where you need to go next. But, as I’ve mentioned before, life isn’t about just moving from point A to point B as quickly as possible.
You need to give yourself space to enjoy the life you’re living. Investing in cultivating playful relationships is a powerful way to enhance your life and accelerate healing.
You have to step away from the everyday and connect with:
- People who make you laugh so hard you can’t catch your breath
- People who encourage you to be adventurous and make you feel brave and strong
- People who build you up instead of tearing you down
These are the people who help us heal our stressed-out bodies, our anxious minds, our anguished spirits with play, laughter, and j
Challenge: Cultivate relationship joy
When was the last time you talked with them?
Here’s your challenge:
- Make three columns, one each for PLAY, LAUGH, and JOY.
- Under each, write the names of people in your life, past or present, who you love playing and laughing with, or who bring you joy.
- Contact at least one of those people and make a date for a catch-up phone call, lunch date, play date, or other adventure.
Bonus points for contacting someone who appears in all three columns! Double bonus points for committing to doing this more than once a month. And triple bonus points for making a habit of contacting someone who fills your cup of love at least once a week.
I want to hear how it goes! Comment below or tag @trulykristi and let me know.
