It’s easy to say, “Think positively.” But how can we optimistically manifest better outcomes when we’re surrounded by the evidence of how much we lack?
How we think of ourselves and what we say aloud defines us. In this way, our thoughts shape our reality. That’s why pessimists have such a hard time with manifestation.
Is abundance all around me?
When you’re scrambling to feed your family, reciting, “Money is flowing toward me” feels foolish. That’s because there are so many facts your brain can latch onto that contradict that statement. It’s hard to manifest abundance that way.
But you can trick that cynical mind into an abundant state with a simple rhetorical trick.
Manifest by asking a simple question
Rather than saying, “I have everything I need,” when your mind knows you lack something, try asking a leading question, like “Why do people want to pay me so much money for this?” or “Why are people saying so many good things about me?” or “Why are so many opportunities opening up for me?”

Your mind can’t default to being a negative Nelly when you do this. Another bonus: asking these questions has the same cumulative effect as manifesting them more straightforwardly.
The act of asking these questions injects a little hope and joy into whatever situation you’re facing. It jolts you out of default negativity.
Challenge: Manifest impertinently
Now it’s your turn.
- What is it that you could use more of in your life?
- Write a question that you’d ask if you already had it and couldn’t believe your good fortune.
- Ask it aloud.
- For extra fun and credit, enlist a buddy to volley these questions about your amazing life back and forth with you.
Use this method whenever you face setbacks, too. You’ll be surprised by how instantly this practice can lift your mood and shift you from a sullen state of dwelling to a problem-solving mindset.
